Information - CL18 Reconstructing Holocene environments in continental Eurasia - recent progress in assessing palaeoecological and archaeological records
Event Information
Human settlements and economic activity throughout the Holocene are often closely related to natural environmental changes induced by climatic variability. In the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and in Central Asia climatic modifications will mostly affect the water balances in the aquatic ecosystems which is crucial for cultural and economical prosperity. There is now a growing body of evidence that indicates that ancient cultures in these regions sensitively responded to such rapid changes in precipitation and evaporation. In this session, we encourage contributions towards a better understanding of climate variability, human induced environmental change, and the interaction between the two, in this region during the last 12 kyrs.
