Using modern data and improved imaging techniques current seismological studies are able to image finer and finer details of the mantle structure. However, geodynamic interpretations of different observations are not straightforward, due to limits of seismic resolutions and uncertainties in how seismic velocities depend on temperature, pressure, composition and large-scale fabric of mantle structures. The goal of this symposium is to bring together scientists and students interested in the mantle structure, particularly those working in broad-band seismology in the fields like seismic tomography, receiver-function analysis, seismic anisotropy and surface-eave inversion to discuss different models related mainly to the following topics:
· Three-dimensional structure of the mantle
· Seismic imaging of plate subduction
· Mantle deformation seen by seismic anisotropy measurements
· Scales of mantle heterogeneity and anisotropy
· Signatures of interactions between the lithosphere and asthenosphere
· Surface tectonic style and the underlying mantle flow
