Information - CL14/CL15 Stability of the Thermohaline Ocean Circulation / Past changes in ocean circulation (co-listed in OS)
Event Information
The thermohaline ocean circulation (THC) is a system that can respond in
highly non-linear ways to changes in surface forcing, allowing multiple
equilibria and state transitions. Major ocean circulation changes have
occurred repeatedly in climate history, and they might occur again in
future in response to anthropogenic forcing.
In this session we invite contributions on observations and modeling of
the THC. In particular, we plan to discuss observational indicators of
current trends and changes in the THC, and modeling studies dealing with
the sensitivity and stability properties of the THC and possible future
changes.
