Information - GM2.1 Tectonic and Climate Controls on Landscape Evolution (co-listed in TS) (including Ralph Alger Bagnold Medal Lecture)
Event Information
The spatial and temporal evolution of erosion in orogens can be quantified by a variety of geologic and geochemical techniques. This session addresses how the integration of different techniques can aid in quantifying the tectonic, topographic and climate history of orogens. Questions this session will address include: (1) How do exhumation and erosion rates vary in space and time across orogenic belts? (2) What are the erosional magnitudes and efficiency of different geomorphic processes in the topographic evolution of orogens? (3) How do different structural styles of deformation influence denudation and topography? (4) To what extent does climate influence surface erosion and possibly the orogenic architecture? We welcome paleoclimate, tectonic, and surface process modeling studies and contributions that integrate intermediate to long time scale data such as: low-temperature thermochronology, cosmogenic nuclides, paleoclimate proxies, paleoaltimetry reconstructions, and/or sedimentary basin stratigraphy. Multidisciplinary studies are encouraged.
